District 67 provides health services at both Hynes Elementary School and Golf Middle School. Qualified health staff help protect children from disease and administer first aid. Health staff also provide direct services to students with significant medical needs.

In order to protect their own well-being and the well-being of other students, all students are encouraged to have annual physicals and ensure that students are up-to-date on their vaccinations. Please refer to the district's Registration Health Requirements section for more detailed information.

Parents must advise the health services personnel if their student requires special medication or has health issues and/or critical health needs.

Students who want to participate in extra-curricular activities must submit the appropriate health forms, completed by a physician.

WHEN SHOULD STUDENTS STAY HOME SICK?

Students should not attend school if any of the following conditions are present:

  • Temperature of 100.0 F degrees or higher

  • Diarrhea

  • Any skin lesions that are open and weeping or an unexplained rash
  • Contagious illnesses
  • Obvious signs that your child cannot comfortably participate in class activities (even without a fever)

*Please note that any medications sent to school with your child must be sent in the original package or prescription container.

*Please note that students are not allowed to carry medications (either prescription or non-prescription) with them or leave medication in their lockers. The only exception to this rule is asthma inhalers and EpiPens (emergency medications), we must have a parent and doctor authorization for the student to carry these medications (a health care provider's signature is not required for asthma inhalers).

Sex Education Statement:

Golf School District 67 provides students a balanced health curriculum that addresses personal safety and wellness as well as healthy habits.  District 67 does not teach sex education as a part of our curriculum and therefore not subject to the state standards or the National Sex Education Standards.

Suicide Awareness:
If your child, you, or someone you know is in crisis, please use the following information from the National Institute of Mental Health:

  1. ASK: “Are you thinking about killing yourself?” It’s not an easy question, but studies show that asking at-risk individuals if they are suicidal does not increase suicides or suicidal thoughts.
  2. KEEP THEM SAFE: Reducing a suicidal person’s access to highly lethal items or places is an important part of suicide prevention. While this is not always easy, asking if the at-risk person has a plan and removing or disabling the lethal means can make a difference.
  3. BE THERE: Listen carefully and learn what the individual is thinking and feeling. Research suggests acknowledging and talking about suicide may reduce rather than increase suicidal thoughts.
  4. HELP THEM CONNECT: Save the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s (1-800-273-TALK) and the Crisis Text Line’s number (741741) in your phone, so it’s there when you need it. You can also help make a connection with a trusted individual like a family member, friend, spiritual advisor, or mental health professional.
  5. STAY CONNECTED: Staying in touch after a crisis or after being discharged from care can make a difference. Studies have shown the number of suicide deaths goes down when someone follows up with the at-risk person.

More information can be found on the National Institute of Mental Health website.
